Statutory & Mandatory Training

Statutory and Mandatory (StatMand) training is essential for ensuring employers meet their legal obligations and prioritise the well-being of patients, staff, and visitors when delivering high-quality care.

We are highly experienced in delivering StatMand modules to Trusts and social care providers. Our expert and experienced clinical team delivers courses to over 25,000 participants a year across the country.

Our team works hard to ensure a positive learning experience for your staff, and we regularly capture feedback to improve. Between June and September 2024, 97% of participants rated the StatMand content as 'outstanding' or 'good' in terms of relevancy for their role. Altogether, 95% would recommend these courses to their colleagues.

Course details:

Our Adult Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to respond effectively to adult patients experiencing cardiac or respiratory emergencies.

It aligns with the Core Skills Training Framework (England) and meets the requirements for Level 2 Basic Life Support.

Who is it for?

  • This course is mandatory for all staff working with adult patients.
  • Pre-requisite: A health declaration must be completed before undertaking practical BLS training.

Objectives

By the end of this two-hour course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline national resuscitation guidelines
  • Recognise and respond to patients with clinical deterioration or cardiac arrest
  • Initiate appropriate emergency response, including management of choking and recovery position
  • Perform effective chest compressions and lung ventilations
  • Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely
  • Understand individual roles and responsibilities in emergency situations
  • Accurately report and record emergency events
  • Apply Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) policy when appropriate

Content

The course covers both theoretical and practical aspects of adult basic life support, including:

  • Chest compressions, AED usage and ventilation
  • Airway management and recovery position techniques
  • Team dynamics in an arrest situation
  • Foreign body airway obstruction
  • SBAR handover technique
  • Post-incident debriefing
  • Understanding DNACPR

Learning Methodology

Participants will engage in interactive learning sessions covering resuscitation theory and practical skills. Experienced instructors will demonstrate techniques, and learners will practice under supervision.

Our Conflict Resolution course is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to prevent, manage, and resolve conflicts effectively. It aligns with the Core Skills Training Framework (England) and meets the requirements for Conflict Resolution.

Who is it for?

  • This course is suitable for all staff members.
  • Pre-requisite: No prior knowledge or experience necessary.

Objectives

By the end of this two-hour course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common causes and stages of conflict
  • Develop strategies to prevent future conflicts
  • Understand the importance of effective communication
  • Recognise and respond to warning signs of escalating conflict
  • Apply communication models to manage conflict situations
  • Understand the concept of reasonable force and its limitations
  • Identify available support resources for individuals affected by violence

Content

Our Paediatric Basic Life Support (PBLS) course provides participants with the essential skills and knowledge to respond effectively to paediatric patients experiencing cardiac or respiratory emergencies.

It aligns with the Core Skills Training Framework (England) and meets the requirements for Level 2 Basic Life Support for Paediatric Patients.

Who is it for?

  • This course is mandatory for all staff working with paediatric patients.
  • Pre-requisite: A health declaration must be completed before undertaking practical BLS training.

By the end of this two-hour course, participants will be able to:

    • While the course includes theoretical content, additional e-learning on moving and handling is recommended to reinforce knowledge.

Objectives

By the end of this 3-hour course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify risks associated with patient moving and handling
  • Understand relevant health and safety legislation
  • Apply safe moving and handling principles
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments
  • Demonstrate safe and dignified patient handling techniques
  • Utilise appropriate equipment safely

Content

The course covers both theoretical and practical aspects of patient moving and handling, including:

  • Understanding moving and handling principles
  • Health and safety legislation
  • Dynamic risk assessment
  • Practical skills (hoist use, slide sheet techniques, patient transfers, etc.)

Learning Methodology

The course combines theoretical instruction with hands-on practice. Participants will learn about safe moving and handling techniques and then practice these skills under the guidance of a trained instructor.

This course provides participants with practical skills and knowledge to manage and escape from potentially violent situations. The focus is on prevention, de-escalation, and physical self-protection techniques.

Who is it for?

  • This course is suitable for staff who may be at risk of violence in their workplace.
  • Pre-requisite: No prior knowledge or experience necessary.

Objectives

By the end of this 1-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify personal and environmental risk factors
  • Develop prevention strategies
  • Apply physical breakaway techniques
  • Understand the importance of reporting and support
  • Apply the NEAR (Negotiate, Exit, Assistance, Reasonable force) principles

Content

The course covers the following:

  • Risk assessment and prevention strategies
  • Physical breakaway techniques (wrist grabs, clothing grabs, etc.)
  • The NEAR model for managing violent situations

Learning Methodology

This practical course focuses on hands-on training delivered by GSA tutors. Participants will learn and practice breakaway techniques in a controlled environment.
