Paediatric Nurse - Emergency Department
NHS Professionals are recruiting for experienced Paediatric Nurses to join the fantastic Emergency Department team at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) Southampton General Hospital is part of a large teaching hospital and is also home to the regional children’ major trauma centre, seeing around 30,000 children and young people. The purpose-built service is a standalone department offering a range of services including an 11-trolley acute illness and injury service, a safe room, eight bedded children short stay, children’s X- ray within the service and a treatment / procedural room.
UHS gained foundation trust status in 2011. Every year the team of 11,500 treats around 150,000 day and inpatients including 50,000 emergency admissions.
Job Description -
General Duties: Professional Practice:
· To provide a high standard of care for patients by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for individual patients.
· To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, reporting immediately any changes in the patients’ condition to the senior trained nurse on duty, or the medical staff as appropriate.
· To carry out all aspects of nursing care, treatments and procedures within agreed policies and procedures including Plaster of Paris Application and Wound Closure techniques such as Suturing.
· To work with medical staff and other members of the health care team to ensure that treatments are carried out within agreed policies.
Additional Duties:
· To have personal knowledge of cardiac arrest procedure and the Major Incident procedure.
· Take charge of sections of the department when required.
· To assist in the achievement of department performance indicators.
· To become proficient and maintain competence in specialised skills required by the Emergency Department. E.g., suturing, cannulation, application of POP, assisting RSI.
· To participate in the discharge planning process for named patients.
