Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Maintain NMC registration and ensure that Revalidation is up to date. Practice in accordance with the NMC The Code and the Standards for Midwives
  • Ensure that other NMC documents and Trust guidelines are adhered to. Maintain and develop professional knowledge and competence in accordance with NMC recommendations
  • Plan and provide individualised care based on careful history taking, medical and social assessment as early in pregnancy as possible
  • To promote and maintain standards of professional practice in order to enhance quality of care for clients
  • Work within the agreed guidelines, policies and practices and participate in the review of guidelines and practice
  • Be accountable for maintaining a safe and responsible approach to own sphere of practice.
  • Ensure good communication with appropriate team professionals/agencies/clients using discretion and maintaining confidentiality and a level of continuity and quality of care
  • To maintain legible and contemporaneous records at all times, reflecting the management of care
  • Communicate information effectively with clients to assist them in making informed choice regarding maternity care
  • Be aware of the Data Protection Act and confidentiality rules. Work towards the aims/objectives of the Trust’s Nursing and Midwifery strategy. Participate in research trials within the unit
  • Ensure that midwifery practice is current, and research based
  • Plan, organise and participate in Parent Education teaching in the clinical area
  • Advise of Family Planning, Sexual Health and Public Health Services available
